Beyond Reflection

One-to-one support to reflect on what you've been through and where you are now.

When your world has been turned upside down by an unexpected change in health - whatever the diagnosis - you may not have had a moment to pause & reflect on all that has happened.

The reflection Beyond Diagnosis programme is inspired by trauma debrief sessions often used in emergency services. During the Scars of Gold campaign many of the Voices interviewed for the Podcast found taking an hour in a safe space to 'offload' and share their story was a cathartic process.

When you have been living in survival mode - attending appointments, counting down the days until treatment ends, turning up for treatment, engaging in physiotherapy... you are often focusing on the physical processes. There is little time to pause and acknowledge how you are actually feeling about it all.

Before the diagnosis you may have felt in control of your life. Having a life changing health event can feel destabilising. With that comes disenfranchised grief, new fears for the future, health anxiety, and an awareness of your mortality you didn't have before.

It is natural to not share all of what you are feeling with those closest to you - but there can be a lot of unprocessed emotions that need to be processed in order to move forwards and begin healing emotionally.

Our one-to-one reflection programme gives you that safe space to talk through everything you have been through. Looking at who you were before things changed, processing what happened up until now. Confidential, a compassionate listening ear with someone with experienced and trained to listen, acknowledge, empathise and validate.

What this is and is not...

Our programme is:

  • Safe, confidential
  • empathy guided debrief process
  • facilitated by a trained team member
  • designed to help you reflect and process
  • intended to support emotional healing to compliment your standard medical care
  • entirely free - thanks to our sponsors, fundraisers and donations

Our programme is not:

  • psychological diagnosis/treatment
  • substitute for medical care
  • two-way conversation: our facilitators are there to listen to you, not offer advice/diagnose. They guide you and listen with compassion.

Once completed the one-to-one reflection support, the next step is to move on to our Beyond Treatment 10-step programme...

Step 1 - Apply for support

Step 2 - Have your virtual one-to-one

Complete the form below

Share your details and a brief outline of your diagnosis. One of our facilitators will reach out for an initial discussion to talk through the next steps. You will be sent a pre-service questionnaire for us to know where you are before we provide help. After the support we will send another questionnaire to compare how much difference the service made. This is important for you to see how much progress you have made, and for us to share with our sponsors to see the work we are doing.

Turn up to your virtual meeting one-to-one

Our support team are trained in our programme and have personal lived experience. This ensures they have empathy and understanding to be able to reassure, validate and guide you through the process of reflecting. They are there to listen and guide you in a safe space.
