Voices Remembered

The reality of providing awareness and support for those living with incurable health conditions means that we will inevitably lose valued members of the Mortal And Strong team. This page pays tribute to the Voices who have passed but are still very much remembered and valued for their contribution in trying to raise awareness for others. Thank you to the families for supporting us in continuing to include their story to help others.

ANJLEE

Anjlee died July 2024, age 38 of Secondary Breast Cancer.

Anjlee was Voice No. 21 for the 2024/25 Scars of Gold campaign and was truly full of joy and influenced so much for the charity. Anjlee shared how she found joy in the simplest of things, like the joy of a Sunrise. Her story touched many and we have worked with the family to find ways to ensure her involvement continues to influence our future missions.

Farewell to a fiercely strong and beautiful friend…

It is with a very heavy heart that we share the news that the beautiful, purest soul that is Anjlee has found her wings. Anjlee was one of our Voices and had become a very dear friend to nearly every woman she met on her journey with us. Her pure soul and twinkling smile touched everyone who met her. Shortly after filming with us her breast cancer progressed. Ive been keeping in close contact with her and her family through this heartbreaking time and the strength, love and humility with which they stuck together has been truly inspiring. Anjlee showed strength, a smile and love until the very end. Her approach to life will forever stick with me - that her living list was not of material things, travelling to exotic places… but seeing a sunrise from the side of a mountain here in the UK. The little things - making memories with her boys. Anjlee was a beautiful wonderful human being who inspired so so many women.

We plan to do something in her honour and will work with the family to create something worthy. Everything we are doing here is to raise awareness of the fact that young people are facing their mortality at a young age. There will never be enough education, awareness and support to help people get an earlier diagnosis, feel empowered with decisions about their own health, and have dignity in their disease journey. Prevention is not just about avoiding disease in itself- but preventing adverse outcomes of disease.

So many people are facing their mortality at a young age - and capturing how these people make every moment count for what is important and find strength to still find joy in each and every one is invaluable. We are very grateful to have been able to capture the absolute beautiful soul in Anjlee.

There will not be a sunrise again that will not make me smile and my heart be grateful for having gotten to know the beauty that Anjlee shared.

Our love, thoughts and prayers to her boys, her family and friends.

Artwork

By Whitney Ellis

As part of the campaign, every Voice had an artwork done inspired by the Voice produced by an artist. Whitney Ellis worked with Anjlee during filming and produced this portrait to capture Anjlee's spirit. This original was donated to the family instead of being included in the Auction and we have agreed to sell 100 limited edition prints with profits going towards the Sunset Memories support. We wanted to produce a service to support families experience palliative care and bereavement and designed our Sunset Memories in light of this.
